Soft-touch, touch-free, or both: choosing for the site
The choice between a soft-touch, a touch-free, and a combination system comes down to what the site's customers expect and what the bay can support. Soft-touch equipment, with wraps or brushes making contact, still delivers the cleaning result many drivers associate with a proper wash. Touch-free removes any concern about contact altogether. A combination system gives the operator both and lets the customer pick.
DMI carries systems for all three approaches, and the monthly visit our salespeople make to regular customers is part of getting that choice right after installation too, since how a bay's customers actually use a system often shows up only after it has been running a while.

Two soft-touch systems, one from Belanger and one from Autec
The Belanger FreeStyler is an overhead-gantry soft-touch automatic with no floor rail, built around an Open Clear Bay design, air-over-oil arm controls, and a Deluxe Wheel Stinger wheel washer for a contoured, low-damage wash.
The Autec EV-1 Evolution is a combination system: an AES-415 soft-touch platform joined with 48 high pressure oscillating nozzles and eight turbo nozzles for tires, wheels and rocker panels, plus a heated foam presoak and up to seven wash packages. Chapter 03
Onboard controls, wraps and keeping friction equipment gentle
Friction equipment is only as good as its upkeep. Wheel adjustment has to be checked so wraps clear the wheel correctly instead of dragging or missing, and wraps themselves wear with use and need replacing before a customer notices a rough pass. Onboard controls on both the FreeStyler and the EV-1 are built to be reached and adjusted from inside the bay, not from a separate equipment room.
